Armenia can carry out 1,000 tests for COVID 19 every day

The number of people tested for COVID-19 in Armenia will increase daily, Health Minister Arsen Torosyan said Monday at an extraordinary government meeting.

YEREVAN, April 13. /ARKA/. The number of people tested for COVID-19 in Armenia will increase daily, Health Minister Arsen Torosyan said Monday at an extraordinary government meeting.
He said referring to the latest data, 26 new cases of infection were registered in the country [over the past day - ed.]. As a result, the total number of infection cases reached 1,039. Of them, 14 recovered and were let out of hospitals, so that the number of recovered patients reached 211.
"Unfortunately, we have another death recorded - the number of deaths has reached 14, and at the moment there are 814 active cases under actual control," said Torosyan.
He said that over the weekend testing capacity has been expanded, and the number of carried out tests has increased significantly, in particular, 680 people were tested on Saturday and 467on Sunday.
In this regard, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made a remark, noting that in fact, the country can afford to conduct a thousand tests every day.
"We have the opportunity to do 1,000 tests per day, but we need indications to conduct them - we cannot invite people from the street to test," Pashinyan said.
In response, the minister stressed that tests are being carried out in accordance with indications, the personnel of all medical institutions have been instructed how to select biomaterial and where to send tests. A new logistics system has been created, and an electronic system is being introduced.
“The number of tests will be increasing daily. Today, research is carried out in six laboratories and another laboratory will join them the next week,” said Torosyan.
