Armenia's central electoral commission sets date from launching constitutional change referendum campaign

The campaigning ahead of the constitutional change referendum will kick off on February 17 and will be wrapped up on April 3, members of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia decided so as they gathered on Tuesday for an extraordinary session.

YEREVAN, February 11. /ARKA/. The campaigning ahead of the constitutional change referendum will kick off on February 17 and will be wrapped up on April 3, members of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia decided so as they gathered on Tuesday for an extraordinary session.  

The commission also set the schedule of the measures to be taken to prepare and conduct the constitutional referendum, which will take place on April 5.

Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission Tigran Mukuchyan told journalists that over a period between February 20 and March 1, the commission will accept applications for participation in the local electoral commissions (as members).

"Constitutional reforms supporters and opponents will have two vacancies in local electoral commissions each, and three members will be appointed by the Central Electoral Commission," Mukuchyan said.

On February 6, the Armenian National Assembly decided to remedy the situation in the constitutional court via referendum, and Armenian President Armen Sarkissian set the date for the referendum.

Armenia's population will vote in the referendum to get the constitutional court out of the deadlock. -0---
