Armenian Economy Minister says poverty rate dropped in 2023

YEREVAN, January 25. /ARKA/. Armenian Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan estimates that the poverty rate in the country in 2023 decreased compared to 2022.
"In 2023, with 13% growth in real wages, creation of 37,000 new jobs , high economic activity and lower inflation, we can say that poverty, in our opinion, has significantly decreased in 2023. We will wait for the official statistics," he said at a press briefing on Thursday.
According to him, even in 2022, when the World Bank and other major international financial organizations warned about the risk of poverty growth in Armenia from 26.5% to 39.6% due to high inflation, the authorities managed to achieve poverty reduction through rapid increase of minimum wages and pensions and introduction of other instruments.
According to the latest data released by the National Statistical Committee, the poverty rate in Armenia in 2022 dropped to 24.8% from 26.5% in 2021. --0--
