YEREVAN, April 27. /ARKA/. The Armenian government decided today to provide capital grants worth about 264.4 million drams to 128 schools in the Shirak province

Education, Science, Culture and Sports Minister Zhanna Andreasyan said that 30.4 million drams of this amount will be provided by the Ministry of Education, while the rest - 234 million drams - will be allocated from the funds saved by schools.

"The funds will be used to repair school canteens, purchase necessary equipment and inventory," she said.

Andreasyan added that similar needs assessment will be conducted in other regions of Armenia in order to ensure appropriate conditions in the school canteens.

Providing schoolchildren with healthy food, according to the approved menu, has been implemented jointly with the U.N. Food Program for several years.

"Since January 1, 2023, 1st-4th grade schoolchildren in 1,073 schools in all 10 provinces are provided with hot meals. This means that as many as 102,000 children receive a healthy meal once a day," Andreasyan said.

She added that the average cost of lunch for one child is AMD 171 per day (AMD 150 of that sum is paid for buying food, AMD 21 is paid for food preparation and paying the staff). ($1 - 387.33 drams). --0--
