Armenian NSS reveals fraudsters who embezzled large sums of money in the process of supplying food to kindergartens in Yerevan

YEREVAN, November 27. /ARKA/. Armenian law-enforcement authorities have initiated a criminal prosecutions against nine people on charges of large-scale fraud and forgery of legal documents. They all are from the companies, which supplied food to pre-school educational institutions, run by the Yerevan Municipality.

According to the National Security Service (NSS), the owner of Haykazunk and Foton LLCs together with a number of employees of these companies and kindergartens forged documents in the period from February to November 2023 to steal the money for the goods, which in fact were not supplied.

Some of these people confessed that a scheme was used to embezzle municipality’s money. Five members of the group were arrested.

Searches were also conducted in the homes of these people, their offices, cars, as a result of which notebooks with notes on large-scale embezzlement, a sum of 22 million drams equivalent to about 55 thousand US dollars, as well as gold jewelry, cell phones and computers were found.

About 20 employees of different kindergartens in Yerevan were questioned, some of whom told about the circumstances of large-scale embezzlement, their involvement in these crimes and a number of other issues of evidentiary importance.

The investigation is ongoing, work is underway to clarify the total amount of embezzlement and to identify all participants of the criminal group, as well as to provide compensation for the damage caused by the alleged crime. -0-
