YEREVAN, January 21. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Assembly has approved today in the first reading a package of additions and amendments to the Law on Administrative Offences, which suggests mitigating the punishment for driving a car without license plate.
The penalty point or merit point system under which a person’s driving license is cancelled or suspended based on the number of points he/she loses over a period of 12 months because of the traffic offences entered into force on January 1, 2020.
Each motorist is given 9 points at the beginning of a year. If a motorist loses all 9 points within 12 months, he/she will have their driver’s license cancelled for 6 months.
Now, if one or both digits on the license plate are missing, the driver's license is suspended for one year. The offence also entails a fine of 200 thousand drams. According to the proposed amendments, if one digit is missing a milder administrative punishment is imposed, more precisely, the fine is reduced to 20 000 drams. The motorist will lose also 2 points.
The government's suggestion was to set a fine of 29 thousand drams and remove 4 points. ($ 1 - 479.34 drams). -0-
