Armenian prime minister’s and president’s popularity rating is very high

A public opinion survey conducted by the Gallup International Armenia has revealed that some 85.3 % of the country’s citizens approve of President Armen Sarkissian’s activity.

YEREVAN, May 14. /ARKA/. A public opinion survey conducted by the Gallup International Armenia has revealed that some 85.3 % of the country’s citizens approve of President Armen Sarkissian’s activity. The popularity rating of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is 81.6%. 

The findings of the survey were unveiled today by Aram Navasardyan, the head of the Gallup International Armenia. Speaking at a news conference he said the survey embraced residents of the capital Yerevan and the regions of the country.  

According to Navasardyan, the feeling of the citizens towards the government and the National Assembly is more restrained. Thus, the government’s performance was approved of by 57.3% of respondents, 37.2% of respondents did not approve of it. The least popular was the parliament with only 48.4% of popularity.

According to Navasardyan, over the last 6 months the attitude of the population towards the authorities has significantly changed. "The current authorities enjoy the full trust of only 15.1% of the country's citizens, while another 49.9% mostly trust them. In September 2018, some 26.5% of the citizens trusted the authorities fully and only 10.1% did not trust them,’ Navasardyan said.

Navasardyan said also the population has also grown dissatisfied with the officials appointed by the Prime Minister. Thus, 12.4% fully agree with Pashinyan's personnel policy, 45.3% mostly agree, 24% mostly disagree and 12.5% completely disagree. That is, only 57.7% positively evaluate his personnel policy. In September 2018 Pashinyan's personnel policy was positively evaluated by 76.4% of respondents.

According to the survey, 69.5% of respondents believe that the prices for goods and services went up over the last 12 months, and 41.4% believe they did not change. At the same time, 77.7% of respondents noted progress in freedom of speech and 39.1% in justice.

The Gallup International Armenia poll, dedicated to the first anniversary of the premiership of Nikol Pashinyan, was conducted from April 30 to May 9, 2019, involving 1,108 respondents over 18 years old  both in Yerevan (33% of the total number of respondents) and in other towns and villages of Armenia .-- 0--
