Armenian prosecutors open criminal investigation into $40 million abuse at Yerevan thermal power plant
YEREVAN, July 29. /ARKA. The Office of Armenia’s Prosecutor General said an analysis of the results of an inspection of the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant cjsc, conducted by the State Oversight Service has revealed a long string of abuses.
In particular, as a result of poor-quality construction work, fraudulent procurement procedures, conclusion of contracts on conditions that were obviously unfavorable for the company, the latter and the state suffered damage worth more than 21 billion drams (more than $40 million).
It said a criminal case was initiated under Penal Code’s articles on embezzlement, abuse of official powers, as well as forgery, sale or use of documents, stamps, seals, vehicles plate numbers. The criminal case was referred to the Investigative Committee of Armenia. -0-
