Construction of solid waste landfill to kick off in Armenian Hrazdan

YEREVAN, April 13. /ARKA/. Armenia's Minister of Territorial Development and Infrastructure Suren Papikyan, Head of the Armenia Office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Dmitry Gvindadze, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Andrea Wiktorin and other officials will travel April 14 to the town of Hrazdan in Kotayk province to attend a ceremony that will give start to the construction of the first solid landfill in Armenia, the Ministry of Territorial Development and Infrastructures said.
The landfill will be located near the town of Hrazdan and managed by twelve participating municipalities – Hrazdan, Abovyan, Charentsavan, Tsakhkadzor, Byureghavan, Yeghvard, Nor Hachn, Sevan, Martuni, Gavar, Vardenis and Chambarak.
When built in 2022, it will operate as a commercially sustainable unit with modern solid waste management systems, covering the collection and disposal of municipal solid waste.
The provision of this service will generate major environmental and social benefits for some 500,000 people in the area.
The cost of the project is 11 million euros. The funds are provided by the European Union Neighborhood Investment Facility (EU NIF), the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) Fund and the EBRD.
