Expert: Armenia’s nonfoods market out of government’s control
YEREVAN, February 24. /ARKA/. Armenia's nonfoods market is out of government’s control, Babken Pipoyan, the head of the Informed and Protected Consumer nongovernmental organization, said on Wednesday.

«Quality of goods at consumer market were controlled in Armenia by two agencies – the Armenian State Food Safety Agency and the economy ministry’s market-controlling agency which is also in charge of nonfoods' quality control, but the latter ceased functioning four months ago because of reorganization, which the economy ministry can not complete,» he said.

The expert said he intended to propose the government to resume activity of this agency at least with the existing resources.

«It is necessary to launch a monitoring to identify primary threats at least,» Pipoyan said. «In particular, I mean dangerous child laundry washing powders,» he said.

Earlier, Russian noncommercial organization Roskontrol released the list of consumer goods dangerous for people.

Well-known brands of child laundry detergents were of special interest – they were marked as extremely dangerous.

Pipoyan said that people are ill-informed about the mentioned threats – there are no such mechanisms in Armenia.

State agencies do nothing to remove the threats, they merely deny them, fueling panic and non-confidence among consumers. --0----
