Government of Armenia approves anti-corruption strategy
YEREVAN, October 3. /ARKA/. The government of Armenia has approved today its anti-corruption strategy and a plan of measures for its implementation in 2019-2022.

Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan said the strategy is aimed at creating the necessary institutional framework for the implementation of a more targeted anti-corruption fight. He said one of the priorities of the plan of measures is to shape the image of a conscientious civil servant, minimize the possibility of using double approaches in the field of legislative regulation, introduce transparency tools, increase the efficiency of detecting corruption cases, and introduce effective mechanisms for confiscating property of illegal origin.

As part of the strategy, two special bodies - the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption and the Anti-Corruption Committee are to be created.  The Anti-Corruption Commission is to be  created in 2021. It will be a consolidated body for the detection and investigation of corruption crimes.

Badasyan also said that the employees of anti-corruption structures will be checked and receive additional social benefits. As part of the strategy, the procedure for submitting income declarations by officials and members of their families will be changed and the threshold for mandatory declaration of property is to be reduced from the current 8 million drams, and also a system for declaring certain expenses by officials will be introduced.

He also said that according to preliminary estimates, the implementation of the strategy will cost 16.5 billion drams.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said it is impossible to achieve ideal solutions that will satisfy everyone, but the strategy gives the basic answers. 'I understand that any change causes fears, but let's move forward. This is a political issue; we made a decision and we need to move forward, if necessary, we will make changes," said Pashinyan.--0—
