YEREVAN, August 21. /ARKA/. Green Climate Fund, GCF, has satisfied the request Armenia filed in 2019, and the country will receive USD 10 million as grant, Nature Protection Minister Romanos Petrosyan reported Friday on his Facebook page.

In his words, the financial means will be spent on restoration of forests, creation of modern nurseries for seedlings, as well as implementation of programs promoting the development of alternative energy in rural communities.

"The program not only solves a pressing environmental problem, but also contains no less important social elements: as a result of its implementation, hundreds of jobs will be created in communities," the minister explained.

Petrosyan said that the project will be implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the environment ministry’s office for implementation of environmental programs.

The total budget for the program is $ 18.7 million.

The Green Climate Fund was created by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to support the efforts of developing countries to tackle climate change. -0-
