Investigation into violence against lawyer Karen Alaverdyan to be continued by NSS
YEREVAN, June 26. /ARKA/. Armenian Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan issued a decision on June 22 this year that the investigation into the criminal proceedings initiated by the Investigative Committee of Armenia on the basis of a complaint filed by lawyer Karen Alaverdyan is to be continued by the National Security Service (NSS), the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office reported.
Earlier lawyer Karen Alaverdyan argued that law enforcers used violence against him in one of the police departments of Yerevan when he tried to stop police officers who kicked and punched his client.
Although the Armenian police started an internal inquiry into the incident, Alaverdyan was charged with “hooliganism” and obstruction of legitimate police actions. -0-
