YEREVAN, April 8. /ARKA/. Armenian customs officers have intercepted an attempt to import a large shipment of drugs from Iran, according to the press service of the Armenian State Revenue Committee.

“A few days ago, at the Agarak checkpoint, a customs officer conducted an X-ray inspection of a truck and trailer driven by an Iranian citizen and discovered 15 foil-wrapped packets containing a white crystalline substance, presumably methamphetamine, weighing a total of 12 kg, hidden inside a water container in the trailer,” the report says.

The truck driver, who was supposed to hand over the prohibited substance to another individual arriving from Iran, was detained on suspicion of drug smuggling. His identity was confirmed on the spot.

Under the supervision of operatives, the recipient of the drugs (also an Iranian citizen) was arrested in one of Yerevan's hotels on suspicion of drug smuggling and distribution.

As part of the criminal case, motions for the arrest of both Iranian citizens were submitted to the court, which were satisfied.-0-
