YEREVAN, November 28. /ARKA/. The natural gas price will not rise until April 1, 2020, Armenian Vice Premier Mher Grigoryan told reporters on Thursday. He added that discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin have resulted in a decision to set a price that will not strike at Armenia's economy. However, Grigoryan said he had no any idea of what would happen later, since "negotiations are under way".
In his words, the Armenian side is doing whatever is possible to prevent any price fluctuation which could put additional burden on ordinary consumers and the industry.
Denying the assumption that such a statement can be considered as a direct message about a price rise scheduled for April 1, the vice-premier said that the negotiations are under way and that there are some issues that need correction.
Mher Grigoryan said that the matter is the price for final consumer. He added that Armenia is now negotiating also with other countries [Iran, Turkmenistan etc.] over possible supply of natural gas for consumers.
In his words, many things depend on infrastructures and volumes. In particular, he said that Armenia has a swap deal with Iran - natural gas for electric power. So, necessary infrastructure is needed for sealing also another deal.
On January 1, 2019, the price of Russian gas for Armenia increased from $ 150 to $ 165 per thousand cubic meters, but the price for consumers inside the country were left unchanged at the account of Gazprom Armenia, which undertook its management optimization.
Gazprom Armenia CJSC, a subsidiary of Russia’s Gazprom Holding, imports natural gas from Russia and distributes in Armenia. The company is also in charge of the maintenance of gas distribution and consumption facilities. -0---
