No salary rise for school teachers in 2017

Armenia's draft budget for 2017 does not provide for increasing teachers' salaries, deputy finance minister Atom Janjugazyan said during a parliamentary hearing today on the draft budget for next year convened by several parliamentary committees.

YEREVAN, November 4. /ARKA/. Armenia's draft budget for 2017 does not provide for increasing teachers' salaries, deputy finance minister Atom Janjugazyan said during a parliamentary hearing today on the draft budget for next year convened by several parliamentary committees.
"The draft budget does not provide for changes in wages of teachers. Is there a need for this or not - is another question ", - he said.
Earlier finance minister Vardan Aramyan said no rise in salaries, pensions and social benefits is planned for next year. An average pensioner in Armenia, for example, receives a monthly pension equivalent to about $85. The average gross salary of teachers is 120,000 drams ($256).
The draft budget for 2017 calls for 1 trillion 210 billion drams in revenue (22.4% of the projected GDP) and 1 trillion 360 billion drams in spending (25.2% of GDP). The budget deficit is planned at 2.8% of GDP, or 150 billion drams. -0-
