YEREVAN, March 24. /ARKA/. After declaration of a state of emergency, the number of emergency ambulance calls has significantly shrunk in Yerevan compared to January-February 2020, Tagui Stepanyan, Director of Yerevan Ambulance CJSC, said Monday at a press conference in the Single Information Center.

The Armenian government has declared a state of emergency in the country from March 16 to April 14 in a bid to prevent the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19.

“In January and February the ambulance served 900-950 calls a day, while now it’s only 700-750 calls,” said Stepanyan.

According to her, among the challenges, as before, are the complaints related to diseases of the cardiovascular system and acute respiratory diseases, and injuries in third place.

“If we compare the data of January and February with the first week of the state of emergency, we can note a reduction in calls due to acute respiratory diseases. If earlier 200–200 such calls were served daily, then in March this number decreased to 100–140 cases, which amounts to only 10-15% of all calls. As before, 20% of calls are associated with diseases of the cardiovascular system," the head of service said.

In her words, there are also challenges provoked by panic in connection with the spread of coronavirus infection.

"Taking this opportunity, I want to urge our citizens to call only when necessary, as our teams are busy these days. And do not call the ambulance to listen to the lungs. It is also a mistake to say that if we suspect coronavirus, the staff will immediately take a patient to the infectious diseases hospital for testing or examination," Stepanyan said.

She said that the basis for isolation and testing is the whole range of specific symptoms, a possible connection with the foci of infection, cases of infection among people in the immediate circle of communication and also the recommendation of a family doctor.

According to the latest report, there are 235 confirmed cases of infection with COVID-19 in Armenia.

The first case of coronavirus infection in Armenia was confirmed on March 1. That patient has already recovered. Among those infected are Armenian citizens from Iran and Italy (residents of Yerevan, Echmiadzin, Meghri and Charentsavan), people in contact with them, as well as one Italian citizen and a visitor from France. -0---
