YEREVAN, June 8. /ARKA/. Number of people who suffer poisoning, presumably with mulberries, in Gegharkunik of Armenia has exceeded 50, the press office of the country’s ministry of health reported.

In particular, 32 people applied to the medical center in Chambaraka town (about 125 kilometers from Yerevan), of the seven were children under 10. Five kids are treated in hospital and two others continue the treatment in an outpatient clinic.

According to doctors, seven out of 32 are in a moderately severe condition, and the health condition of the others is satisfactory. Twenty-nine people are residents of Vahan village and three others live in Chambarak town.

Another 20 patients are still in Vahan village treated on an outpatient basis.

Instructed by the minister of health Armen Muradyan, a special doctors’ group headed to Chambarak led by deputy minister Gagik Mirijanyan. The chief infectious disease specialist of the ministry Ara Asoyan is in the group.

Laboratory analyses were carried out to establish the causes of the poisoning and preventive measures were taken.

Doctors found out that all the patients ate mulberries they bought from the same fruit vendor.

House-to-house visits are used for early detection of new cases, according to the report. –0--
