YEREVAN, March 1. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party decided today to cancel a march it planned to hold today to remember ten people who were killed in post-election violence on March 1, 2008, saying in a statement the cancellation was due to the first confirmed case of coronavirus in Armenia.
The news was announced by the deputy chairman Suren Papikyan in a Facebook posting. Papikyan serves as the minister of territorial administration and infrastructures.
The first case of new coronavirus was confirmed in Armenia today. The patient is a 29-year-old Armenian man who was airlifted from Iran with his wife on February 28. Pashinyan said the man contacted a doctor with fever. Later after having the first and second checks he tested positive for the infection. His wife tested negative for the virus.
“In this situation, the priority is to follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Health and take all necessary measures. We urge everyone to remain calm and trust only official information,” Papikyan wrote on his Facebook page. -0-
