YEREVAN, January 27. /ARKA/. Construction of a centralized water supply system for residents of the village of Chartar and other nearby villages in Martuni district of Nagorno-Karabakh has begun with the help of Russian peacekeepers, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The Russian peacekeepers are ensuring the safety of the workers engaged in the construction of a water pipeline for the settlement of Chartar in the Martuni region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The town administration applied to the Russian peacekeepers with a request to secure the safety of the workers since the pipeline runs near the line of contact with Azerbaijani troops. At the present stage the workers are drilling a well for water extraction, which is expected to last one week," said Sergey Gapeyev, a representative of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.

"We are laying a water pipeline because there is a lack of water in the settlements. Many thanks to the Russian peacekeepers for being here and ensuring our safety. The situation is such that we will finish the drilling in one week," said Ararat Gevorkyan, water pipeline specialist in the village of Chartar.

The installation of the water mains and the external water supply networks is planned to be completed by the end of the month.

Since the beginning of 2022 the servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent have ensured the safety of workers who were implementing more than 30 projects in Nagorno-Karabakh.

On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and  phosphorus weapons.

After 44 days of the war, on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities. According to the document, the town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin were handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.

A Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. -0-
