YEREVAN, January 29. /ARKA/. Some 10 percent of employees at the State Committee for Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia will be laid off, the head of the department Samvel Harutyunyan, said today, adding that as a result the salaries of scientists will increase.
Harutyunyan said those set to be cut are engaged largely in administrative work, saying that almost all of them are also engaged in scientific activity and are very likely to join some other scientific projects.
In his words, 25-30% of academic projects are being led by young people. The problems begin when they reach a certain level, when their works are published in foreign magazines and they become attractive to foreign employers. ‘No one can force them to refuse high salaries offered by foreign companies and stay in Armenia," Harutyunyan said. -0-
