YEREVAN, October 3. /ARKA/. The fourth edition of SunChild Festival is to be launched in Yerevan on October 7 and wrapped up on October 27, Ruben Khachatryan, founder of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and director of the Yerevan Zoo, said Thursday at a news conference.

SunChild International Environmental Festival was initiated 2007 by the FPWC. From the very beginning the biannual event is organized in cooperation with FPWC’s general partner VivaCell-MTS. This is the only environmental festival in the whole South-Caucasus.

SunChild Festival aims to bring nature, wildlife and environment into the focus of public attention and to increase public awareness on crucial environmental issues in Armenia.

Khachatryan expressed concern over little interest over the festival and ill understanding of its significance by appropriate institutions and expressed hope that they will change their approaches in the future.

Ralph Yirikian, General Manager of VivaCell-MTS, the general sponsor of the festival, on his side, said that the event aims to attract attention to environmental problems, to enhance public awareness of nature protection.

The festival program 2013 will offer an international environmental film program a children film competition, panel discussions on environmental issues and several public events.

“Approximately 30 films from all over the world will be broadcasted by various Armenian TV and Web TV Channels during the festival period. Among the media partners which joined SunChild Festival are Shorakat TV, Kentron TV and CivilNet. The films will be broadcasted between October 18th and 27th,” the press release says. “Those films focusing on topics which are of high importance for Armenia as for example garbage and recycling, wildlife conservation and other issues will be combined with panel discussions.” .---0---
