The number of appeals to human rights defender’s office jumps 4 times over past 6 years

The number of appeals to the Office of Armenia’s Human Rights Defender has dramatically increased over the past six years, the outgoing human rights defender Arman Tatoyan, told his last press conference in that capacity on Wednesday.

YEREVAN, February 23. /ARKA/. The number of appeals to the Office of Armenia’s Human Rights Defender has dramatically increased over the past six years, the outgoing human rights defender Arman Tatoyan, told his last press conference in that capacity on Wednesday.

"In 2015 there were 5,214 appeals, in 2016. - 5,113, in 2020. - 14,780, and 21,118 in 2021," Tatoyan said,.

Tatoyan said the number of hotline calls has also increased, with 2,056 calls in 2015, 1,876 in 2016, 11,735 in 2020 and 14,124 in 2021.

"Over those five years, there has been a five-fold increase in the number of appeals to the Constitutional Court. The hotline has been modernized and can now handle three calls at a time around the clock,’ he said.

Tatoyan whose term in office ends today will be replaced by former justice minister Kristine Grigoryan, nominated by the ruling Civil Contract party.-0-
