Public transport for the wealthy, creation of control center, and new buses: Avinyan reveals plans for 2025

YEREVAN, December 4. /ARKA/. The Yerevan City Hall's plans for 2025 include further improving public transport and introducing more restrictions on private vehicles, with these initiatives being among the city's top priorities, said Mayor Tigran Avinyan.

"In addition to constantly expanding our transport fleet – this year, we have purchased 131 new buses and 15 new trolleybuses, and next year we plan to acquire another 15 new trolleybuses. We also plan to purchase an additional 250 18-meter buses," he said in an interview with Armenian Public Television.

According to Avinyan, bus routes are being expanded to enhance the convenience of public transportation.

Furthermore, as he noted, the mayor’s office is establishing a Control Center that will manage traffic flows.

"Over the years, the number of private cars has been increasing, and if this trend continues without any countermeasures or logical restrictions, one day we will all drive out and simply come to a halt. Therefore, the main goal for next year will be the establishment of the Control Center, with the introduction of a new traffic light system as the first step," he explained.

The mayor also thinks that public transport in Yerevan should be developed to the point where even wealthy residents of the capital would want to use it.

"Our main task is to consistently develop public transport and make such changes to our culture that even wealthy people will want to use it. I am confident that in 4-5 years, the quality of public transport in Yerevan will be very high – with dedicated lanes, electric buses, and a unified ticket system," he said in an interview with Armenian Public Television.

At the same time, Avinyan added that, just this year, the City Hall allocated 8.5 billion drams to subsidize “Yerevan Bus” CJSC, and this amount is expected to grow. ($1 = 399.59 drams)
