YEREVAN, June 2. /ARKA/. In 2020, Armenia for the first time implemented a 3.4 billion drams worth program that was designed to develop the country's military-industrial complex, High Technologies Industry Minister Hayk Chobanyan said on Wednesday during a parliamentary discussion on the implementation of the 2020 state budget.

According to him, the 2020 budget had earmarked 3.3 billion drams for targeted scientific and technical research in the filed of defense, and of that amount 2.84 billion drams or 84.7% were utilized.

He said the need to implement such a program was prompted by last autumn war in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

According to him, because of the security situation some IT and ecosystem development programs will continue in 2021.

He said the budget for scientific and research programs has grown from 2.8 billion in 2020 to 4.5 billion drams in 2021, and in 2022 it is to increase to 5.5 billion drams.

"I believe that the potential is higher and the planned funds will not be enough to solve the existing problems," Chobanyan said.

Armenia's defense spending in 2020 increased by 124 billion drams. -–0--
