YEREVAN, April 15. /ARKA/. Armenia's Ministry of Environment announced today the completion of   a grant project designed to  assist Armenia's protected areas. It said as  part of the project all houses in Shikahogh village were installed with solar water heaters.

The heaters on all 56 houses were installed by an environmental NGO called Green Eco-District. The  village is  adjacent to the state reserve of the same name, which is  Armenia's second largest forest reserve, occupying some 10,000 hectares of land.

The villagers were provided with solar water heaters with a capacity of 150 liters. Before the installment of the heaters, the roofs of their houses were repaired. Each household received five LED lamps, a five-year warranty on the use of water heaters, and a one-year repair  warranty. A course was conducted  for the  residents to teach them how to use the heating systems.

The village of Shikahogh is not connected to the natural gas network and for heating water for domestic purposes, the residents  used firewood or electricity. - 0--
