Tender for construction of Caucasus Power Transmission Network in Armenia to be finalized by the end of the year

YEREVAN, September 5. /ARKA/. A tender was announced for the construction of the Caucasus Power Transmission Network in Armenia, which will allow establishing an additional power transmission channel with Georgia.

Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hakob Vardanyan told ARKA news agency in an exclusive interview that the tender will be finalized in 4 months.

He said as part of the network a substation is to be bolt in Ddmashen village, a 100 km long power line will be laid to Ayrum, a DC converter station will be installed and the power line will be extended to the Georgian border (another 7 km), and connected to the 500 kV Marneuli substation in Georgia.

"The new transmission line will provide a transmission capacity of 350 MW," Vardanyan noted.

The project is financed by German bank KfW. "This is a rather long-standing project worth 188 million euros, however, in all likelihood, its cost may increase. That is, we will need to attract additional financial resources," the deputy minister added.

He noted that European and Indian companies are participating in the tender (there are no Armenian participants due to their non-compliance with the conditions set forth).

"If we receive the results of the tender by the end of the year, design and calculation will start by the spring of 2024 and by the end of next year, theoretically, we will be able to start construction of the network," Vardanyan said.

Armenian-Georgian power transmission lines

Of the three previously constructed power transmission lines between Armenia and Georgia, only Alaverdi power transmission line is actually functioning. And utilization of the Caucasus power transmission network will make it possible to establish a high-capacity energy corridor, linking the energy systems of 4 countries in the region - Iran, Armenia, Georgia and Russia. -0-
