Tourism in Armenia is more promising area than mining industry, Bekor Papazyan, executive director of National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia, said Friday at the presentation of the project of construction of southern tourist corridor in Armenia.
YEREVAN, April 22. /ARKA/. Tourism in Armenia is more promising area than mining industry, Bekor Papazyan, executive director of National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia, said Friday at the presentation of the project of construction of southern tourist corridor in Armenia.

He said that the foundation has no intention to put special emphasis only on development of eco tourism and didn’t rule out combination of mining and tourism in terms of economy.

Papazyan views it necessary to find balance between mining industry and tourism to preserve the sights for tourists.
Armenia is rich in tourist sights, but many of them, including ancient monasteries and historical monuments sit near ore fields. Some of mines are open.

This circumstance prompted concern of environmentalists, who fear that mining can pollute environment. -0-
