Armenia has great potential for development of tourism sector - UNWTO Secretary General
YEREVAN, 12 September. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received on Thursday Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili, the government press service reported.
It said Pashinyan highlighted the consistent development of cooperation between the Armenian government and UNWTO and the implementation of joint projects in this field. Noting that the tourism sector is of key importance for the government, the Prime Minister also emphasised the necessity of developing regional tourism packages.
Pololikashvili noted that Armenia has great potential for the development of the tourism sector and in this context attached importance to the World Wine Tourism Festival being held in the country these days. According to him, it also promotes the development of tourism outside Yerevan.
The interlocutors highlighted the development of the tourism investment guide of Armenia in cooperation with the Tourism Committee of Armenia, Investment Support Centre and UNWTO. The presentation of the guidebook will take place tonight.
The 8th UN World Wine Tourism Forum is taking place in Armenia on 11-13 September. More than 120 winemakers, influencers, wine tourism experts from 20 countries are taking part in it.
According to official statistics, the number of foreign tourists visiting Armenia in the first half of 2024 fell by 6% year-on-year to 946,162. -0-
