Shaki waterfall to be available to tourists almost all the year round
YEREVAN, May 10. /ARKA/. The unique Shaki Waterfall in the southern Armenian province of Syunik will be available to tourists almost all the year round, nature protection minister Artsvik Minasyan told journalists on Wednesday.
The Shaki Waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Armenia, is located 6 km from the town of Sisian. Its height is 18 meters. Currently, the waterfall is used to generate electricity by hydroelectric power plants. To see the Shaki waterfall in all its glory, it is necessary to redirect the water from the hydroelectric power station to the natural channel.
According to the minister, from March 15 to April 30 and from October 1 to November 15 tourists will be able to admire this natural miracle from 11 am to 5 pm, and from May 1 to 30 September until 7 p.m. Minasyan said also that regardless of this schedule, the companies that operate HPPs in this segment will be required to maintain environmental releases of water at the rate of 200 liters per second.
The Shaki Waterfall is located on the river of the same name, which has a length of only 18 km. At the place where it flows into the Vorotan River a settlement of primitive people (the ancient stone age) was discovered. Also, near the waterfall, many grottoes were discovered. --0--
