About 80,000 girls have not been born in Armenia over the past 30 years because of sex- selective abortions, Armenian Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said in parliament on Wednesday.

Armenian doctors will be penalized for performing selective abortions
A bill on reproductive health and reproductive rights passed today in the second and final reading by the Armenian parliament provides for penalties for doctors who would perform abortions in the 12th and 22nd weeks of pregnancy, a time of gestation that a child’s sex manifests itself.
