YEREVAN, May 4. /ARKA/. Armenia’s prosecutor general office has commenced 74 criminal cases for abuses and embezzlement of public resources in the agriculture sector, the press office of the prosecutor general office reported on Friday.
According to the press release, the prosecutor general’s office has conducted investigations to see how state interests are protected in procurement of fertilizers and provision of seeds under the program of protection of farmers.
The investigations have found out that of the government loans provided to companies supplying fertilizers, AMD 1,112,415,000 has not been returned to the government budget and AMD 673,895,752 has not been returned to noncommercial Seeds Agency organization.
The press office reports that the ministries of agriculture and finance have taken particular measures, which have resulted in return of around AMD 700,000,000 to the government budget. After that the debt amounts to AMD 396,000,000.
The Seeds Agency sued provincial municipalities demanding to seize AMD 663,000,000 from them.
Later, the government waived obligations on fertilizers and seeds, which totaled AMD 165,000,000 and AMD 642,000,000 respectively, by reducing supplier companies’ liabilities. However, AMD 31,847,700 has not been forgiven.
It has also been found out that in many cases beneficiaries have had no idea about the programs and, in fact, have not taken part in them, or they were fulfilling their obligations without being included by the heads of the municipalities in budgetary programs, presenting false information about failures in fulfillment of obligations by beneficiaries, who have not taken part in the program or have been amnestied by the government.
Armenia’s prosecutor general office has commenced for irregularities in providing fertilizers and 49 in providing seeds (abuse of powers, office fraud and waste). --0---
