YEREVAN, February 18. /ARKA/. Armenian deputy minister of agriculture Garnik Petrosyan has warned today farmers against starting farm work now because of unprecedented high temperatures.
"Sudden changes in temperature are not desirable for agriculture This can lead to earlier blossoming of trees," Petrosyan said.
According to him, now is the time to trim fruit trees, but he warned against unearthing vines, which usually are covered by earth for the winter season. He added it is also premature to start sowing and planting of seedlings in the fields.
The record warm weather was recorded in Yerevan and some regions of Armenia on February 18, however, cold snaps are expected across the territory of Armenia on Friday with temperatures falling down from 4 to 10 degrees.
According to Petrosyan, the likelihood of cold snaps will preserve for the next two months –until April 25. Petrosyan said also potato planting in the Ararat Valley can be started from the beginning of March. -0-
