Ameriabank’s profit in 2014 increased by almost 18% to 7.1 billion drams, according to the bank's chief financial officer Gevorg Tarumyan.

YEREVAN, February 17. / ARKA /. Ameriabank’s profit in 2014 increased by almost 18% to 7.1 billion drams, according to the bank's chief financial officer Gevorg Tarumyan.
Speaking at a news conference today he said Ameriabank’s profit came against the backdrop of a downturn trend in the market with the banking sector seeing its profit decrease by 41% in 2014.
"The past year was dynamic enough; the bank was able to demonstrate strong performance throughout the year and become the leading bank by all indicators,’ said Tarumyan.
He said the bank's assets increased by almost 27% to about 400 billion drams, while the growth rate for the banking sector was 16%. According to him, the liabilities increased by more than 29% to 357.4 billion drams, while the figure for the banking sector was 18%.
He said also customer funds grew by 23% to 209 billion drams, while the figure for the sector was only 4.8%. Also the number of individual customers increased by 23% and the number of corporate customers by 17%.
The amount of individual deposits rose by 27% to 86 billion drams, while current accounts grew by almost 17%.
"These figures show that Ameriabank is a reliable bank, which people choose to place their deposits in although the interest rates are not high,’ said Tarumyan.
He also said the bank's credit portfolio rose by 63% to 286 billion drams, while the figure for the sector was only 21%.
According to him, the growth was due to a 73% rise in lending to small and medium-sized businesses, which is the bank target segment; consumer loans grew by 2.6 times and mortgage lending by 67%.
