YEREVAN, April 8. /ARКА/. Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan and Angolan Industry and Trade Minister Rui Miguens de Oliveira discussed some issues related to the purchase and import of rough diamonds from Angola to Armenia for further processing 

. During the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of an investment forum in the UAE, Papoyan presented the investment environment in Armenia to his Angolan counterpart, the press service of the Armenian Economy Ministry reported. 

He noted that Armenia has a developed rough diamond processing sector and that up to 1.5 million rough diamonds can be imported from Angola and processed in Armenia annually. 

The ministers agreed to continue the discussions in a working manner. 

According to the report of the Ministry of Economy on the socio-economic situation in January-December 2024, diamonds worth about $500.9 million were imported last year (an annual increase of 6.4%).

This is one of the five main categories of goods imported to Armenia in January-December 2024, along with gold ($5.9 billion), telephone and telegraph equipment ($827 million), natural and liquefied gas ($556.3 million), and cars ($520.1 million). 

In general, according to Armstat, imports to Armenia in 2024 amounted to more than $17 billion (an increase of 33.8%), and exports - more than $13 billion (an increase of 53.1%).-0-
