YEREVAN, April 15. /ARKA/. Armenian Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan told a Cabinet session today that under a March 17 decision of the Eurasian Economic Commission Board –the executive arm of the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union- Armenia is allowed to import as many as 7,000 electric vehicles this year which will not be subject to customs duty.

He said the government made a decision on distribution of 6,400 electric cars, while the quota for the rest 600 cars will be held as a reserve for car dealers.

Kerobyan said the decision will be retroactive for individuals, who imported EVs after Jan. 1, 2022. He said citizens can submit a new declaration and get refunded. As for legal entities, the decision will be effective for them from March 31, 2022.

He said the decision is expected to prompt motorists to buy more electric cars. According to him, Armenia's quota for 2023 is 8,000 electric cars. -0-
