YEREVAN, July 13. /ARKA/. The Armenian government is searching for a "cheap" loan for the full reconstruction of a border crossing in the southern town of Meghri on the border with Iran, the head of the State Revenue Committee David Ananyan said today.
Earlier this month Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited the Meghri border checkpoint and the Free Economic Zone, located near the border. He reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with what he saw there, stressing the poor state of the checkpoint, the public toilets, calling such a situation unacceptable at the southern gate of the country.
"Studies have shown that it is necessary to conduct capital reconstruction and repairs to restore the Meghri border check point, which will require significant expenses," Ananyan said at a press conference on Friday.
He noted that the reconstruction should be carried out at the expense of credit resources, but the government rejected one of the proposals because they were "expensive" funds.
"We have programs for the full reconstruction of the checkpoint and we will continue to search for the necessary funds," Ananyan said.
As for the free economic zone, Ananyan said it is still not very active, but this territory is very small for the envisaged tasks and stressed the need for its expansion. "The current high tax rates do not motivate the business to fully work in the legal field," Ananyan said. --0--
