Armenia ratifies EEU treaty on trademarks

YEREVAN, January 20. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Assembly has approved today the ratification of the Eurasian Economic Union's (EEU) Treaty on Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Origin of Goods.
Deputy Minister of Economy Varos Simonyan noted that the treaty signed on February 3, 2020 calls for the creation of a legal framework that should regulate relations related to the legal protection and use of trademarks and appellations of origin in the Eurasian Economic Union.
“This implies the possibility of filing an application for registration of a trademark or appellation of origin of goods with any of the national patent offices within the Eurasian Economic Union,” Simonyan said.
He said after the publication of the application and the corresponding notification, all patent agencies conduct an examination of the trademark. Based on their decisions, the office where the application was submitted to decides whether to register the trademark or not.
According to him, this will allow them to use the mechanisms for protecting the exclusive right to a trademark provided for by the national legislation of the EEU member states, since those provided for by the registration agreement are legally equal to national registrations.
At the same time, he noted that a single registration procedure will operate for all countries. -0-
