Armenia's Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is launching a special program designed to help insecure families overcome gradually their poverty.

YEREVAN, December 2. /ARKA/. Armenia's Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is launching a special program designed to help insecure families overcome gradually their poverty. According to deputy minister Zhanna Andreasyan, agreements with the beneficiaries of the program, who are recipients of the government poverty allowances, will be signed before the end of the year.
She said beneficiaries of this pilot program will be provided with farm animals, forage and veterinary services to increase their family income.
She said similar programs had already been implemented in Armenia with the support of international organizations and as a result, more than 90% of the involved families recorded income growth of more than 55% and 48% of families were able to overcome extreme poverty.
The deputy minister said the pilot program will embrace as many as one thousand insecure families, who are included in the government-funded welfare program. They need to have two or more minor children, be able-bodied, and their monthly income should not exceed 25 thousand drams per each family member.
The involved families will be provided with farm animals - cows, pigs, sheep, goats, turkeys and chickens - based on their needs and their experience of animal husbandry. She said if a family sells the cattle or slaughter them, it will be fined.
According to Andreasyan, the families should understand that the government encourages work and their income will not affect their involvement in the list of people eligible to allowances.
She suggested that after some period, in case of successful implementation of the program, families will be able to earn a stable income and stop receiving allowances. --0--
