Armenia’s State Food Safety Service has promised today to tighten safety requirements for street traders ahead of New Year festivities. The warning came from Hovhannes Mkrtchyan, the chief of Veterinary Inspectorate of the agency.

YEREVAN, November 18. / ARKA /. Armenia’s State Food Safety Service has promised today to tighten safety requirements for street traders ahead of New Year festivities. The warning came from Hovhannes Mkrtchyan, the chief of Veterinary Inspectorate of the agency.

Speaking at a news conference he said the agency is going to tighten requirements for street traders ahead of New Year ‘because people are trying to sell products of animal origin in streets from their cars without proper sanitary control.’

Mkrtchyan said that the Inspectorate had already registered about 100 cases of violation of trade rules, regarding transportation and storage of meat and meat products.

Under the current law, the penalty for trading in unauthorized places ranges from 50,000 to 70,000 drams. The penalty for street trading without a permit is from 10,000 to 70,000 drams. ($ 1 - 415.7 drams).  -0--
