The Armenian parliament has ratified today the agreement on the development of multimodal transport as part of the TRACECA program.
YEREVAN, February 8. /ARKA/ The Armenian parliament has ratified today the agreement on the development of multimodal transport as part of the TRACECA program. Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology Gagik Grigoryan said the agreement was signed at a meeting of the TRACECA intergovernmental commission back in 2009 in Kyrgyzstan.
TRACECA is an internationally recognized program aimed at strengthening of economic relations, trade and transport communication in the regions of the Black Sea basin, South Caucasus and Central Asia.
According to Grigoryan, the agreement regulates relations between transportation companies, multimodal transport operators, suppliers and recipients of goods, other individuals and legal entities that are involved in multimodal services and act on behalf of cargo owners. He said the document spells clearly the rights, duties and responsibilities of each participant of the transportation process.
"The agreement creates favorable conditions for multimodal transportation and carriers, as it provides for relations between all TRACECA participants," Grigoryan said. He noted that transportation of goods will be carried out by multimodal operators, which will be responsible for the whole process.
Multimodal transportation is transportation of goods by two or more types of transport on the basis of a single contract.
The TRACECA project was established in 1993 at the initiative of the European Commission in Brussels. TRACECA member states are Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. -0-
