Armenia to have high grape yield this year
YEREVAN, June 29. /ARKA/. Armenian Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan and owners of large procurement and wine producing companies met last Friday in the town of Etchmiadzin to look into what could be done to help these companies amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The meeting was an initiative of the Armenian Viticulture and Winemaking Foundation. Deputy ministers Aran Khojoyan and Tigran Gabrielyan were also present.

According to some representatives of the companies, they took advantage of the assistance programs provided by the government as part of a string of measures designed to help businesses offset the consequences of the coronavirus shock.

According to manufacturers, there are difficulties in terms of sales and imports of equipment. Khachatryan assured them that the government will exempt the import of equipment from customs duties.

The minister and major manufacturers discussed also the details of the upcoming procurement season, as well as possible solutions to the existing problems.

According to Khachatryan, a rich grape harvest is expected this year and the problem is to find balanced solutions to the problems through mutual concessions.

'We recently revised downward the interest rates of subsidized loans provided to the agro-processing sector for the purchase of agricultural raw materials. As you know, as a result of state subsidies, loans are available at the zero annual rates until the end of the year," the minister said.

He also recalled that this year  additional loans will also be provided in the amount necessary for the purchase of equipment used to store wine raw materials.

Wine producers also voiced other issues related to long-term loans, export and import procedures, and increase in domestic sales. The minister asked the leadership of the Armenian Viticulture and Winemaking Foundation to prepare an analysis of some important target markets, taking into account new trade procedures with these countries. -0-
