Armenian entrepreneurs committing life-threatening violations may be prohibited from continuing their activities

YEREVAN, November 27. /ARKA/. The Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia discussed today, in the first reading a package of legislative amendments aimed at eliminating the legal loophole exploited by unscrupulous entrepreneurs.

According to Petros Martirosyan, head of the Bureau for Coordination of Control Bodies, under the current legislation, if a supervising body decides to prohibit an activity of an enterprise, the entrepreneur can file a complaint in court and continue operating while the complaint is being considered, without rectifying the identified violations, which poses threats to the safety and lives of citizens.

The proposed amendments stipulate that decisions and acts of supervisory authorities in the field of urban planning, technical, and fire supervision must be executed immediately and cannot be suspended by the court while the entrepreneur's complaint is being considered.

In addition, it is proposed to introduce a requirement for mandatory conservation maintenance of industrial facilities in the event that they are not operated due to violations.

At the same time, he stated that if the court finds that the inspection body made an incorrect decision, the enterprise will be able to claim compensation for the losses incurred due to the downtime. -0-
