YEREVAN, December 27. /ARKA/. Armenia has imposed a 6-month ban on the export of whitefish caviar. The decision was made at a government meeting on Friday.

“This decision is based on the need to ensure food security in the Republic of Armenia, the sustainable use of bioresources, and the preservation of the biodiversity of Lake Sevan,” the draft document states.

It is also noted that, as a result of regulating the whitefish catch process, fish stocks have increased in recent years.

The ban on the export of whitefish caviar was last extended in July 2024. The Ministry of Environmental Protection of Armenia has significantly reduced the allowable whitefish catch in Lake Sevan. Unlike previous years, when the annual catch volume reached 600 tons, the 2024 quota has been set at 257 tons.
