Armenian government to assist winegrowers: a plan for acquiring two grape varieties sanctioned
YEREVAN, October 30. /ARKA/. During a meeting on Thursday, the Armenian government sanctioned the purchase of Areni and Voskehat grapes.
Deputy Minister of Economy Arman Khojoyan stated that the government aims to support winegrowers in the Vayots Dzor region in marketing these grape varieties, as there has been a noticeable decline in wine consumption both globally and within Armenia. Consequently, a surplus of finished products from the previous year has built up.
"Due to this, the demand for Areni and Voskehat grapes has diminished, and processing facilities are showing less interest in purchasing these two varieties this year. In the meantime, wineries that have established stringent quality standards for their raw materials are cultivating their own vineyards and utilizing their own grapes," the deputy minister elaborated.
Khojoyan indicated that the total harvest of these two grape varieties this year is around 5,500 tons, with 3,400 tons allocated for wine production.
"State assistance is essential for the sale of 2,100 tons of Areni and Voskehat grapes intended for grape spirit production," Khojoyan emphasized. He revealed plans to offer subsidies to businesses amounting to 70 drams per kilogram for purchases of 700 tons or more, with a baseline price of 220 drams ($1 = 382.62 drams).-0-
