Armenian and Russian customs officials discuss situation on Upper Lars
YEREVAN, November 21. /ARKA/. The Deputy Chairman of the Armenian State Revenue Committee (SRC) Ashot Muradyan and the Head of the Russian Federal Customs Service Vladimir Bulavin discussed today in Moscow the situation at the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border, where more than a thousand of Armenian trucks with Russia-bound goods have been lined up for weeks waiting to go through the customs clearance.
Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vagharshak Harutyunyan and customs attaché of the Armenian Embassy in Russia Vahan Hakobyan were present at the meeting, the State Revenue Committee said.
The customs attaché's activity in cooperation with the Russian Customs Service as well as support for business entities was underscored.
The meeting discussed the ongoing work on the reconstruction and modernization of the Upper Lars border crossing point, which will provide business entities with quality and modern services once completed.
According to Armenian Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan, there are about 1,600 vehicles with Armenian cargo waiting to enter Russia near the Upper Lars.
After the explosion on the Crimean Bridge, Russian border guards tightened control at the Upper Lars checkpoint. It takes no less than 10 days for an Armenian truck to go through the customs border checkpoint.
Armenian exporting companies are incurring heavy losses because of the loss of perishable goods. --0--
