Armenian economy minister names alternatives to imports of Turkish goods
YEREVAN, November 3. /ARKA/. Armenian Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatrian said today there are several alternatives to imports of Turkish goods.

The Armenian government has imposed an embargo on the import of Turkish goods into the country, which will operate from December 31, 2020 for a period of 6 months.

“I think that business itself knows where other alternatives are. If they do not import end-use goods from Turkey from January 1, they can do it from Russia, Belarus, Iran, China. This is a business decision that they themselves will make, depending on the available alternative possibilities," Khachatryan said.

The minister gave an example of TV sets, noting that there are, for example, Turkish-made TVs, and there are Malaysian, Chinese TVs, which practically do not differ in quality and the question of consumer preferences remains.

"Accordingly, if consumption changes, I do not think that serious changes will take place in our life," Khachatryan said.
He recalled that the embargo applies only to  finished products; restrictions are not applied to all other goods of intermediate consumption or the components that are used for production.

The ban was  prompted by Turkish assistance to Azerbaijan that started massive war against Nagorno-Karabakh. Turkish military also recruit and transport Syrian mercenaries to Azerbaijan to fight against Karabakh. -0-
