Safety of large public buildings in Armenia will be monitored for the first time, Sergei Hayrapetyan, chief of the publicity division of the Armenian emergency ministry’s fire-prevention and technical safety inspection, said on Tuesday.

YEREVAN, March 27. /ARKA/. Safety of large public buildings in Armenia will be monitored for the first time, Sergei Hayrapetyan, chief of the publicity division of the Armenian emergency ministry’s fire-prevention and technical safety inspection, said on Tuesday.
He is quoted by Novoe Vremya as saying that the buildings that host large quantities of people, such as trade centers, hospitals and hotels as well as sport and entertainment venues, will be inspected at Emergency Minister David Tonoyan’s instruction.
According to the latest reports, at least 64 people were killed Sunday in a fire in Winter Cherry Mall in Russia’s city of Kemerovo. The flame was reportedly ignited on the fourth floor of the trade center.
Hayrapetyan said there are no ideal constructions in Yerevan, but there are no also critically fire-hazardous buildings.
In his words, some irregularities are being fixed “from time to time” and managers of venues are being instructed how to put things right.
He said “inspections are always being carried out” and “it is not ruled out that we will inspect also large trade centers soon”.
The official said that any building must have no less than two exits. He said it is necessary to have also smoke exhaust ventilation systems. -0---
