Armenian government rewards small companies for not laying off staff

The Armenian government has provided financial assistance to a number of small companies by providing them with 787.9 million drams for not laying off their employees during the COVID-19 epidemic, David Ananyan, the chairman of the State Revenue Committee, said during an extraordinary meeting of the government today.

The Armenian government has provided financial assistance to a number of small companies by providing them with 787.9 million drams for not laying off their employees during the COVID-19 epidemic, David Ananyan, the chairman of the State Revenue Committee, said during an extraordinary meeting of the government today.
He said these are the companies, which consist of two to fifty employees and which did not cut their salary base in a time span from January 1 to April 1.
According to him, on April 1 the number of their employees and the amount of salary base were equal to what they had at the beginning of the year -in other words, they did not dismiss employees and did not reduce the salary base.
He said as of April 13, only 30% of the beneficiaries submitted income tax calculations, on the basis of which 9,725 beneficiaries were sent notifications that they are eligible to the assistance . He said until now 5,388 of them have applied for it and as of today 5,207 have already the assistance to the tune of 787. 9 million drams.
The government of Armenia approved eleven programs to counteract the economic consequences of coronavirus. Six of them call for assistance to business (agriculture, tourism, SMEs, microbusiness and other industries); five are about social support to various groups of the population.
Armenia declared a 30-day state of emergency to curb the spread of coronavirus on March 16. Later, it imposed stringent restrictions on the movement of citizens and banned also some types of economic activity. On April 13, the government decided to extend the state of emergency for another month - until May 14 inclusive and lifted also the ban on some businesses.
As of April 13, 1039 confirmed cases of coronavirus were recorded in Armenia. Some 211 people recovered and 14 patients died. ($1 - 491.18 drams). -- 0--
