YEREVAN, April 13. /ARKA/. The Armenian government has approved today a program designed to help develop crayfish farming in 2024-2026. The program envisages government support for crayfish breeding entrepreneurs.

Deputy Economy Minister Narek Teryan said Armenia produces around 3,000 tons of crayfish annually, of which around 2,000 tons are sold outside the country.

He added, however, that uncontrolled crayfish catch from Lake Sevan has caused a sharp decrease in their number, and as a result, the government is forced to look for alternative ways, one of which is creation of artificial reservoirs for crayfish breeding.

The deputy minister said there are technologies for intensive artificial crayfish breeding, including a closed cycle, which allows saving water resources.

Within the framework of the program, the government will provide subsidies to crayfish breeding farms to partially compensate for their expenses.

Specifically, the government will subsidize 50% of the costs of planning, construction, purchase of equipment and crayfish. Only citizens with a good tax history will be eligible for the program. -0--
